L/Corp Robert James Ferguson |
Corporal R J Ferguson, previously reported missing on 10th August, is now officially reported killed in France on that date. The eldest son of Mrs Margaret Ferguson of 457 Ashdale Avenue, and the late Robert Ferguson, he was born in Londonderry Northern Ireland and came to Canada at the age of six years. He attended Bruce Public School and Roden Commercial School. Prior to his enlistment in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders in March 1942, he was employed by the Dunlop Rubber Company. He went overseas in September 1942. Two other brothers are serving, William with the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) and David with the Infantry Reinforcement Unit. Corporal Ferguson was a member of Rhodes Avenue United Church and Cameron L.O.L. No 613. |

Member of 7th battalion meets death on battlefield. Other local casualties. Private R H Norris, 7th Battalion, killed in action, enlisted for active service in Victoria with the 88th Regiment, Victoria Fusiliers, a year ago this month and left for the front as a member of the 20th Battalion. He came to this coast from Ireland, where he was born twenty two years ago. Before leaving his native country, he served one year with the Royal Irish Constabulary. He was unmarried and it is not believed he had any relatives resident here. |

Sgt. James Herbert S Clarke |
Previously reported missing after air operations overseas, Warrant Officer Clarke, 23, is now for official purposes, ‘presumed dead’. He was the son of Mrs J H Clarke of Outremont, and late of County Tyrone, Ireland. He was educated in Ireland and in Montreal schools and was attending the Diocesan Theological College in Montreal whwen he enlisted. He received his wings in February 1942 and went overseas a month later he is survived by his mother, three sisters (Mrs V Anderson of Town of Mount Royal, Mrs W G Finlay of Three Rivers, and Mrs L Brunelle of Moncton, New Brunswick (N.B.)) and his grandparents living in Ireland. |
