12/07/2017 Rifleman Michael Curtis has no known grave and is commemorated on Le Touret Memorial in France.
12/07/2017 Newspaper reports suggest Michael Curtis lived at 59 Grove Street, East Belfast.
12/07/2017 Neuve Chappelle was a battle designed to distract the Germans on the Western Front as much as possible. It was also the first planned battle on the Western Front with an initial bombardment of the enemy lines, which began at a quarter past seven on Wednesday 10th March. By 7.30am a heavier more concentrated bombardment became more intense and by 11.00am Neuve Chappelle was in British hands. It was during this early morning fighting that Michael was killed in action.
12/07/2017 Rifleman Michael Curtis was serving with the 1st Battalion of the Royal Irish Rifles when he was killed in action in the Battle of Neuve Chappelle on Wednesday 10th March 1915.
