02/04/2018 John Milligan was the youngest son of William and Jane Milligan. William Milligan and Jane Richardson were born on 27th December 1882 in the district of Dungannon.
02/04/2018 John R Milligan was born in Tullyrusher, Newmills, County Tyrone on 4th December 1894. He was the second youngest of at least nine children.

02/04/2018 During his time in the Army he had attained the rank of Sergeant.
02/04/2018 Sergeant John Milligan was serving with the 11th Battalion of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers when he was killed in action at the Battle of Langemarck on Thursday 16th August 1917.
02/04/2018 Six officers, including the Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Audley Pratt D.S.O., along with 91 other ranks, were also killed on that day.
02/04/2018 Sergeant John Milligan has no known grave and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial in Belgium.
02/04/2018 Sergeant Milligan is also commemorated on Dungannon War Memorial and on the WW1 Roll of Honour in Newmills Parish Church.

30/12/2015 Sergeant John Milligan, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, killed in action, was a son of the late Mr William Milligan, Blacktown, Newmills, Dungannon, a well known Orangeman in the Stewartstown district.
