Frank McGeown was the son of Bernard and Sarah McGeown He was born about 1924 in County Tyrone. The family lived at Loy Street, Cookstown. Prior to enlistment Frank worked in Cookstown Bacon Factory. Driver Frank McGeown was serving with the Royal Army Service Corps when died on 17th March 1945 as a result of a road accident. His motorcycle collided with a lorry in England while he was acting as a dispatch rider. Driver Frank McGeown’s remains were returned home to Cookstown.

From the Mid Ulster Mail dated Saturday 3rd March 1945:
Mrs S McGeown, of Loy Street, Cookstown, has received notification that her son, Frank, of the Royal Army Service Corps, was injured in an accident while despatch riding in Holland, and has been taken back to a hospital in England. Previous to joining up, this young man was employed in the Cookstown Bacon Factory.
Driver Frank McGeown was serving with the Royal Army Service Corps when died on 17th March 1945, aged 21 as a result of a road accident. While acting as a dispatch rider in England, his motorcycle collided with a lorry.
Driver Frank McGeown’s remains were returned home to Cookstown.
Frank McGeown is buried in the family plot at Derryloran Roman Catholic Churchyard (the old graveyard), Westland Road, Cookstown. The family headstone reads:
