The 1901 census lists James as age 14 living with the family at house 6 in 15 in Derryganard, Lissan Upper, Londonderry. James was still at school. His father was a farmer.
The 1911 census does not list James as living with the family at house 2 in Derryganard, Lissan Upper, Londonderry.

Private James Woods is buried in Les Baraques Cemetery, Sangatte, Calais, France. Calais was a base for many hospitals and it may be presumed that Private Woods died whilst in one of these.
