William was born at Rossmore near Lissan, Cookstown. He enlisted in Cookstown, joining the 9th Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. While in training with the battalion, William’s health began to deteriorate in January of 1915 while training with the Inniskillings at Randalstown, and he died on the 9th March 1915.
