Summary
Fusilier Ernest McGuckin was born in Stewartstown on 21st October 1919, and was the son of the late Robert McGuckin, Low Cross, Tullyhogue, and Emily Morrison, Dennistoun, Glasgow, formerly of Stewartstown, Co. Tyrone. Prior to enlisting in the army on 8th September 1938, Ernest worked as a farm labourer. He died as a result of a road traffic accident while in service in post war Austria, on 27th December 1946, aged 25.
Klagenfurt is the capital of the Austrian province of Carinthia. The War Cemetery lies 3 kilometres west of the city centre and to the east of the Woerther See. From Klagenfurt go out of the town west along the Villacher Strasse, which runs parallel to the Lendkanal and then, after 3 kilometres, turn left into Lilienthal Strasse along which the cemetery will be found.
