William Charles (Billy) Irvine was the son of William and Ethel Victoria Irvine of Doorless, Tullyhogue. His father was a Wold War One veteran. Billy’s parents returned to Tullyhogue where they ran a cobblers shop and raised seven children. Aircraftman 1st Class (Wireless Operator) William Charles (Billy) Irvine served with 220 Squadron of the Royal Air Force. Aircraftman Irvine and his fellow crew were killed when the Hudson aircraft crashed just after take-off near Middlesbrough.
Heading north on the A19 at Crathorne, follow the signs for the City Centre towards Thornaby. The Cemetery is just to the south of Mandale Marshes Race Course at the junction with the A174 and located on the bank of the Old River Tees.
