Summary      
Hugh McKeown enlisted in Cookstown. Private Hugh McKeown was serving with the 1st Battalion of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers when he was killed in action in France on 28th January 1917. Private McKeown was part of a night patrol lead by Lieutenant Cecil W Glenn when the 1st Battalion attacked enemy positions on 28th January 1917, south Le Transloy. Even though the mission was a success, the battalion lost eighteen men. Private Hugh McKeown has no known grave and is commemorated on panel 4D-5B on the Thiepval Memorial in France.

Summary      
The Thiepval Memorial will be found on the D73, next to the village of Thiepval, off the main Bapaume to Albert road (D929). Each year a major ceremony is held at the memorial on 1 July.
