Edward Mallon was the son of Mrs. Mary Ann Donnelly of Aughacolumb, Ardboe, Stewartstown. His father seems to have died as a young man and Mary Ann had married Mr. Mick Donnelly. Edward enlisted in Londonderry with the 1st Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. He was nineteen years of age when he was killed at the Somme and it is unlikely that he had served with the Battalion in Gallipoli.
