Newspaper Report
Mrs Catherine Quinn, 1 Railway View Dungannon, received the distressing intimation on Tuesday that her husband, Private John Quinn, Inniskilling Fusiliers, had been killed in action on the 30th January. The news contained the following letter from Captain D Conway, C.F. :-
‘I am the Catholic Priest attached to the 18th Loyal North Lancs. And it was my sad duty today to lay to rest your husband, Private J Quinn. It seems he was killed outright on January 30th, and as I happened to be in the vicinity today, I was able to give him a Catholic burial. Unfortunately we were on the move at the time and thus I have no particulars of his end except that he was killed outright and thus by a merciful Providence, escaped all pain and suffering. May Almighty God give you strength and grace to bear your great loss and bereavement. Please allow me to express my deepest sympathy and to promise him a remembrance during Holy Mass.‘
Private John Quinn is buried in Berks Cemetery Extension, Belgium.
John Quinn is listed as Sergeant J Quinn, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, on Dungannon War Memorial.
