Charles O誰eill was the eldest son of William and Mary O'Neill (nee McIlvenna). Charles was born on 4th August 1892 in the Moneymore area. The family lived in Ballymulligan, Loop, County Londonderry. His father was a ploughman. By 1911 Charles and his brother Thomas were working for William John Scott, a farmer. Charles O誰eill was serving with the 7th/8th Battalion of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers when he was killed in action on Thursday 21st March 1918. He was 25 years old.

The 1901 census lists Charles as age 9, living with the family at house 8 in Ballymulligan, Loop, County Londonderry. His father was a ploughman.
The 1911 census lists Charles as age 19, a farm servant along with his younger brother Thomas, at house 10 in Ballynewy, Springhill, County Londonderry. He was working for William John Scott, a farmer.
Charles enlisted with Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers in Magherafelt.

It was the first day of the German Spring Offensive, also known as the Lundendorf Offensive.
Private Charles O誰eill has no known grave and is commemorated on panel 38-40 on Pozieres Memorial, France.
