Sergeant William Neill was the son of William & Jane Neill of Clare, Cookstown, and the husband of Elizabeth (Bessie) Neill (nee McFarlane), Gortgonis, Coalisland, Co. Tyrone. William Neill had previously worked as a Mill worker before the outbreak of the War. Sergeant Neill served in the First World War at Salonika, Egypt and France William Neill re-enlisted once more with the 5th (Home Defence) Battalion, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers on 5th August 1940. He died of illness while in service at Southend General Hospital in Essex on 22nd April 1945.
