Fusilier William Kelly was born on 3rd July 1910, the son of Mary Kelly, Factory Square, Cookstown, and formerly of Gortagilly, Moneymore. William Kelly worked as a farm labourer prior to enlisting in the army on 14th December 1933. He had seen service in Egypt, Palestine and India. Fusilier William Kelly was killed in action on 6th March 1944 (aged 33) when defending Brigade Headquarters.

Taukkyan War Cemetery adjoins the village of Taukkyan which is about 35 kilometres north of Yangon (formerly Rangoon). It is on PY1 road (formerly Prome road), about 15 kilometres from the airport and can be easily seen from the road.
