Francis Eccles was born in the Parish of Drumglass Dungannon and was the son of Francis and Mary Eccles of Carland Dungannon He enlisted in Cookstoan and served with the 1st Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers at Gallipoli where he was wounded in action. He died of wounds at Hospital in Malta on 3rd August 1915 and is buried in grave E-EA-E 658 at Addolorata Cemetery Malta.

This Cemetery lies south on the outskirts of the village of Paola and is about 5 kilometres away by road from Valletta. The Cemetery is easily located by following the road signs to the airport. Once in the vicinity of Paola the Cemetery is clearly visible. In the cemetery, the main plot is located by the top gate.
