Summary      
John Sloan was born in Ardtrea, Cookstown on 7th January 1891. He lived with his grandmother and cousin, Mary Jane Hanna. John was a farm servant. Private Sloan was a reservist in the 5th Inniskillings, and went to France with the First Expeditionary Force in 1914. He was injured at Gallipoli, and then in Greece. Private John Sloan was serving with the 5th Battalion of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers in France when he was killed in action on 17th October 1918.

Summary      
Vis-en-Artois and Haucourt are villages on the straight main road from Arras to Cambrai about 10 kilometres south-east of Arras. The Memorial is the back drop to the Vis-en-Artois British Cemetery, which is west of Haucourt on the north side of the main road.
