John Lavery was born in Pomeroy, County Tyrone. At the outbreak of the First World War he was living in Blaydon-on-Tyne and enlisted in Newcastle-on-Tyne with the 15th Battalion Durham Light Infantry. John Lavery was killed in action on 1st July 1916. He has no known grave and is commemorated on panel 14A-15C on Thiepval Memorial, France.
